Messina
Messina, “Gate of Sicily”, has always been a city with a commercial character.
It was founded by the Greeks who gave it the name of “Zancle” (sickle) linked to the shape of its port. Later it was conquered by the Romans, then by the Byzantines, the Arabs and, finally, by the Normans.
It is the Sicilian town closest to the Italian Peninsula and well connected to it by a ferry system.
Milazzo
Milazzo – Founded by the Greeks in 761 BC and recognized as a Roman civitas by 36 BC, the city boasts an interesting architectural heritage rich in testimonies and symbols of a millennial history.
A hilly territory, rich in natural beauty, with the town divided into two districts, the ancient one, in an elevated position, and the modern one, towards the sea, particularly worthy of note in Milazzo: the Castle of Frederick II, the largest in Sicily, really majestic and imposing; the Old Cathedral, built at the beginning of 1600 and finished in 1700; the New Cathedral of Santo Stefano. Tourist destinations not to be missed are also the beautiful beaches, the Bay of Tone, the promenade of Ponente from the crystal clear sea with the horizon Aeolian Islands
Tindari
Tìndari, a famous Sicilian town on the Gulf of Patti, was founded by Dionysus of Syracuse. It took the name of Tyndaris, in honor of Tindaro, King of Sparta. At an altitude of 300 metres, it overlooks the turquoise sea where winding strips of golden sand, called “Laghetti di Marinello”, creep in.
From Tindari, you can enjoy a panorama that goes from Milazzo to the Aeolian Islands up to the Peloritani mountains. Famous the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Tindari, where there is the black Madonna: a wooden statue of Byzantine style.
