Messina
Messina – Anciently called Zancle (sickle) for the shape of its port, is also called the “gate of Sicily”.
It is one of the most beautiful Sicilian provinces, rich in history and places to visit.
Between the late Middle Ages and the mid-seventeenth century, Messina reached the peak of its greatness, contending in Palermo for the role of Sicilian capital.
We have included in our tour some beauties of Messina that you can not miss:
The Duomo – From Norman times, characterized by the valuable Gothic portal, the windows of the fifteenth century and the astronomical clock (located on the bell tower) considered the largest and most complex in the world.
The Church of Catalans – Splendid testimony of Byzantine art, all to admire. “Cristo Re” – Ideal panoramic point to appreciate the enchanting view of the Strait. Ganzirri – Fraction of the city of Messina, is a typical fishing village that overlooks the Strait of Messina.
The natural landscape is made unique by two lakes of Ganzirri connected respectively to the two seas that meet here in the tip of Sicily, the Ionian and the Tyrrhenian.
